Dedicated starter kits speed up design in Nordic RFIC circuits

The developers’ passive starter kit for Nordic IC

Nordic nRF52x32 & nRF51x22 IC are usually one of the first choices for users designing and building Bluetooth® and NFC communication circuits. Nordic nRF52x32 & nRF51x22 IC have an integrated RF functionality including Bluetooth® low energy ANT and 2.4GHz ultra-low power communication. In order to speed up development for Nordic IC users, Murata has introduced a companion passive kit that supports the reference design of the Nordic nRF52x32 & nRF51x22 with our range of capacitor, inductor, crystal and balun products.

Murata’s latest kit provides a comprehensive set of components with supporting part information to give everything needed when implementing Nordic IC designs. For use with Nordic nRF51x22 and nRF52x32 chips, Murata’s passive starter kits are based on Nordic’s reference designs and have received full confirmation from Nordic. With ceramic capacitors, inductors and crystal devices, the kits are geared toward designers of smartphone accessories, home automation products, remote controls, various sensing devices, and other IoT related products and applications. Together with the kit, Murata also includes various compact products designed for use in small-scale applications such as wearable devices.

Nordic nRF52x32 series offer Bluetooth® low energy (BLE), ANT 2.4GHz, and NFC. The nRF52x32 is good for sensors and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Running at 64MHz, it racks up impressive stats: a EEMBC Coremark® score of 215, and 58 Coremark®/mA. Built using cutting edge 55nm process technology, the nRF52 series is designed for today’s need for speed, such as carrying out increasingly complex tasks in the shortest possible time before returning to sleep in order to conserve precious battery power. With a Cortex-M4F processor at its heart, it is the most capable Bluetooth® low energy SoC on the market today.

The nRF51 series is a family of highly-flexible, multi-protocol, system-on-chip (SoC) devices for ultra-low power wireless applications. The nRF51 series supports a range of protocol stacks, including Bluetooth® low energy (previously called Bluetooth® Smart), ANT, and proprietary 2.4GHz protocols such as Gazell. nRF51 devices are also on-air compatible with existing nRF24L products from Nordic.

The nRF51422 is a powerful, highly-flexible, multi-protocol SoC ideally suited for ANT and Bluetooth® low energy ultra-low power wireless applications. It is built around a 32-bit ARM® Cortex™ M0 CPU with 256kB/128kB flash + 32kB/16kB RAM. The embedded 2.4 GHz transceiver supports both Bluetooth® low energy as well as the Nordic Gazell protocol stack which is on-air compatible with the nRF24L series products from Nordic. Nordic has also introduced the nRF51822 with same the functions as the nRF51422 except for ANT support.

The nRF51824 is an auto grade AEC-Q100 qualified (Grade 2: -40 to 105°C) Bluetooth® low energy SoC. It is a member of the nRF51 series SoC family and as such is pin and software compatible with other devices in the nRF51 series. It is an ideal choice for intelligent automotive applications that may include alerts, collision detection, control and telemetry, wireless charging and infotainment, amongst many others.
