As the IoT market grows, sensors are taking greater importance and play a key role in these devices. The PIR sensor, short for pyroelectric infrared sensor, is a movement sensor detecting human presence. Its primary function induces great energy saving in household equipment, home appliances or office automation equipment. Ordinary infrared ray sensors emit infrared light and react to the reflection of objects. It keeps reacting as long as the objects or people are in the infrared light.
KEMET PIR sensor detects humans because its piezoelectric ceramic absorbs the infrared rays emitted from human body and can thus detect the infrared signature naturally emitted by humans. So here the detection works on a wider area and is not restricted to a ray’s path. Another main feature of KEMET PIR sensor is that it can detect infrared rays without using lenses, which are essential for other infrared sensors. Other ordinary PIR sensors need protruding lenses, the projection housing distorts the design of the device. Due to the absence of a lens, KEMET PIR sensor is low profile, it does not protrude, which make it ideal for demanding visual requirements. For ordinary PIR sensors it is not possible to detect humans through glass or plastic.
