Noria is an Arrow Certified Indiegogo campaign that received $50,000 in flash funding as part of the Arrow and Indiegogo Certification Program. Watch the video or read below to learn how Noria came to market.
Hi this is Don, electrical engineer and industrial designer with Noria. Noria is an air conditioner, is a better designed air conditioner that we feel tries to address a lot of the pain points that people associate with window air conditioners; their size, their un-attractive look, their weight and difficulty to install.
I’m Kurt, CEO of Noria Technologies. We wanted to make a window air conditioner that wasn’t hideous, it didn’t kill the view you had out of your room.
So fundamentally Noria works like any other window air conditioner, we still use a vapor compression cycle to achieve our refrigeration. We’ve done a lot of work on fan optimization, we are using some specialized motors that have greater efficiency and reduce form factor to achieve the smaller size.
From my stand point, the electrical engineering side, we have a microcontroller-based control system that is also using Wi-Fi. Our first prototypes used Bluetooth, which is a much simpler connection, but it also really limits your options down the road. Whereas, with Wi-Fi, Noria could potentially lead to internet connectivity and that could open us up to a whole range of other services like Amazon Echo, Google Home, Nest; if this, and then that and so forth.
In October of 2016, Noria received $50,000 in flash-funding as part of the Arrow Indiegogo Certification Program.
Having that flash funding come through was really the best news of the month and it gave us a lot of flexibility to go out and procure some things that we needed but didn’t necessarily have the budget for. It was a huge relief to us and a big honor that Arrow gave that stamp of approval to us.
Arrow Certification kind of came to us; we were already talking to Arrow, we were already on Indiegogo and when the program of Arrow and Indiegogo was announced, it seemed like a natural fit. We definitely use Arrow’s expertise and it might be a good time to mention how we got to know Arrow.
We were already using Arrow for some part sourcing for our original client work so when it came time to do the Noria design for ourselves, Arrow was the first distributor we called. It’s been both for sourcing parts, but also relying on Arrow’s Field Application Engineers, getting introductions to the part’s manufacturers, and then getting keyed into those resources as well.
